Affliction (A Poem)

Flipping the days, forlorn collections of tattered pages

Poignant tears trickled down your livid cheeks

Scalding emotions, disturbing recollections, you struggle to cage

Agonizing howls and shrieks akin to drugs you crave

To abate and devour those lingering, wistful memories

Penetrating dolor awakens, tarnishes your dainty soul

Camouflaged despair, no one dares to console

Exuberant smiles and laughter now obscured

Euphoria you once extolled

Vanished into thin air now jaded, a lusterless coal
